Admission And Discharge Policy

We do not service those who are physically disabled but would consider children who are speech delayed and accompanied by a special needs resource staff. Acceptance of such a child will depend on the discretion of the school.

An interview will be arranged to familiarize you and your child with the surroundings, and answer questions to complete the admission form prior to enrollment.

A non-refundable register fee is required and must be paid at this time.
During the first days you are encouraged to stay with your child at the beginning of the day to reassure your child is safe and in friendly custody.

A written notice for permanent withdrawal must be submitted one month prior to the effective date of withdrawal.  Failure to comply with a written notice will result in a loss of the full program fee. Temporary withdrawal of your child will result in a loss of the permanent space in the classroom and hence your child will be placed on a waiting list.

Advance Montessori School reserves the right to terminate services due to the following:
1-If fees are not paid and policies not followed.
2-If the school feels it is unable to meet the needs of the child and or family.
3- If a child’s behavior is physically aggressive.
4- If a child resorts to abusive language.

Arrival and Dismissal

All students are to be accompanied into the school by their Parent/Guardian at the designated supervised area. The attending staff is to be notified that the child is on the school premises for the attending staff to make a note in the attendance register.
Classes start at 9am.

End Of Day Dismissal

Parents who require after care for their child arrange their pick-up time through the office. Each time a child is dismissed from the class, the attending staff makes a note of the dismissal in the attendance registers. Please do not walk into your child’s room as it disrupts the program and disturbs the children. At no time will a student be allowed to leave the school grounds unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. No child may leave the property with any other person unless the school has been notified and proper identification shown.

Health

If your child requires medication of any kind, including Aspirin, a signed authorization form by the parent/guardian is required.

A medication logbook is available for this purpose. Medication will not be given without a signed permission form. PLEASE DO NOT PUT MEDICATION IN YOUR CHILD’S SNACK BOWL OR CUBBY.

Your child’s teacher will administer any necessary medication. Please note if your child is not feeling well; please do not tell your child that he/she can ask the teacher to call you. Instead, if you think your child may be coming down with something, please inform the teacher privately.

Upon enrollment, parents must complete the health form supplied by the school. All the children must be immunized according to the Ontario Ministry of Health regulations. The Public Health Department checks immunization records. The school may, at its discretion. Request that the parent have a child taken to the family physician for inspection should any of the following communicable diseases be suspected: Pink Eye,Trench Mouth, Ringworm, Head lice, Impetigo.
The Public health Act (Section 84) requires that, “Children who are suffering from communicable disease are excluded from school”.

If your child is on medication by prescription he/she must be kept home for 48 hours to allow the medication to take effect. For major communicable disease such as diphtheria, poliomyelitis, smallpox, and meningitis, a certificate for re-admission to school is required for either the Medical Officer of Health or from the family physician. Although the other communicable diseases do not require a medical certificate for return to school, please consult the family physician before the child resumes attending after any of the following: Red measles, Scarlet Fever, Mumps, Chicken Pox, Infectious Jaundice, Whooping Cough, infectious Hepatitis, German Measles, Epidemic Strep-Throat/Sore Throat.
The school reserves the right to exclude a child with a communicable disease until it is satisfied that the child is no longer infectious.

Parents are requested to telephone the school explaining any student absence. Student attendance is formally recorded in a register. Persistent absence or lateness, especially in the elementary class, may result in a meeting between the Principal and the parents.

Vacation

Please refer to the school calendar for all scheduled vacations. There is no reduction in tuition if vacations are taken when school is in session.
School Closure Due To Bad Weather
In the event of extreme weather conditions, it may be necessary to cancel school. The school will make every effort to inform parents of any such cancellations through CBC740 AM or CFRB 1010 Am radio stations. Before coming to school on stormy mornings please listen to these radio stations for information regarding school closures. The answering machine message will be updated as often as possible. Generally speaking, if the public or separate schools are closed- SO ARE WE!
